
The Hawthorn Hockey Club is one of the largest hockey clubs in Australia with nearly 400 playing members in 2010 and an affiliate of Hockey Victoria. The club is located at the Hawthorn-Malvern Hockey Centre, Auburn Road, Hawthorn, in the state of Victoria.
The 2009 Winter Season saw the Mens Division field nine Senior teams, from Mens State League-1 (the highest Men’s club level competition in Victoria) to Metro-3, as well as three Veterans team. The Womens Division fielded six Senior teams, from Women’s State League-1 (the highest Women’s club level competition in Victoria) to Pennant-D, as well as one Veterans team.
The 2010 Winter Season saw the Junior’s Division field fifteen teams in the following age groups; Under 9’s (7-a-side, half-field) mixed teams, Under 11’s mixed teams, Under 13’s boys & girls teams, Under 15’s boys & girls teams, and Under 17’s boys & girls teams. Over the Winter Season the Club also runs “Minkey” for Under 7’s to learn the basic skills of Hockey in a non-competitive environment. During the Summer Season the Club runs the 4-week Hockey Australia “Hook-in2-Hockey” program, designed to introduce juniors of all ages to the basic skills of hockey in a non-competitive environment.
The main season is the Winter Season, which runs from April to September (School Terms 2 & 3). The Summer Hockey Season runs from October to March (School Terms 4 & 1), with a break over the Christmas New Year holidays. The Indoor Hockey competition is also played during the Summer Season.
The club has a number of State, International and Olympic Representatives (both past and present) and continually strives to develop players capable of reaching the highest possible standards.
