Based on Hockey5s rules.

Nominally 5 players per team (Local Rule: Mercy Rule)

No Goal Keepers

No Penalty Corners or Penalty Strokes

Usual dates: First match: 1st Friday in Term 4, no matches on Melb Cup weekend, Last Match: last Friday in November

All matches played at the Hawthorn-Malvern Hockey Centre

Game Times

Age group eligibility: as per HV winter competition.

Teams may be required to assist with ground setup or pack up, immediately before or after their game.

Opportunities for umpire development (players and parents)

BBQ every week (volunteers will be assigned !)

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, social or competitive, young or not so young, local, interstate or international, there is a team that’s just right for you.

Become a Hawk

Under 10’s and Under 12’s usually play their games on Saturday mornings. Under 14’s, Under 16’s and Under 18’s usually play their games on Friday nights.

For the purposes of determining age-based player eligibility the following shall apply for the 2025 HV winter competition:

Under 10 Born on or after 1 January 2015
Under 12 Born on or after 1 January 2013
Under 14 Born on or after 1 January 2011
Under 16 Born on or after 1 January 2009
Under 18 Born on or after 1 January 2007

The Hawthorn Hockey Club uses Team App for official club and section messages, fixtures and selection information.

Please make sure that you have “checked” the correct Access Groups so you are opted in for the correct updates.

Likewise, leave any Access Groups that you are no longer associated with to minimise the number of Team App notifications you receive.

Note: Some groups, teams may use WhatsApp, however these messages are not club messages and are not archived by the club.

Our club, like all clubs, relies on many volunteers to operate. This includes the President – Junior Section, Age level co-ordinators, Team managers, Coaches, Hookin2Hockey co-ordinators, Indoor co-ordinators etc, right down to people to volunteer to run the BBQ when it is Hawthorn’s turn.

We NEED help to run your child’s team efficiently, so contact myself or your age coordinator to find out how you can help. It does not take much effort and is a great way to support your kids.
